MedRhythms Develops New Digital Therapy for the Treatment of Chronic Stroke

MedRhythms, a company headquartered in Portland developed a novel therapy, digital therapeutics, to treat chronic stroke walking deficits in individuals.

This is the first digital therapy developed for neurologic disease and injuries. The impact of the device on chronic stroke walking impairments is currently being studied in a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) at the nation's top rehabilitation hospitals and research
centers.

Most of the US population approximately 3.5 million are affected with stroke a leading cause of disability and walking deficits. Thus population in this region is expected to grow with huge increasing stroke survival rates and aging people which in turn are negatively affecting the lives of stroke survivors and their caregivers due to the long-term functional deficits.

There is currently no standard of care for chronic stroke survivors with walking deficits. Hence, digital therapeutics helps individuals to provide a promising treatment option and changing their quality of life. Thus, digital therapeutic has the potential to address a significant unmet need in healthcare.

FDA approval of this new device helps patients by providing a more effective treatment or diagnosis for life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions.
