Novel Breakthrough Brain Implant Technology Developed to Treat Neurological Disorders

Axoft developed novel brain-machine interface (BMI)for the treatment of long-term neurological disorders.

The novel gliosis-free implants has the ability to reside in the central nervous system for the long-term without causing harm. In addition, these implants makes use of electrical stability to track brain signals over the long term, and maximises the information exchanged between the brain and electronics with the help of an ultra-high density of sensors.

The minimally invasive implants build a seamless interface with the nervous system, in order to allow ultra-high bandwidth and stable, single-neuron measurements, whereas the existing implants have the limited longevity and ability to keep the track of same neurons in the brain overtime. Moreover, these implant materials enables to stay functional eventhough the brain shifts or grows, thus minimising the need for replacement by offering a long-term BMI to seamlessly connect the brain to electronics.

The pursuit of elevated quality of life, aging population leading to the financial burden of neurological disordersare all contributing to the raising deamnd of less invasive, more powerful neurological tools.

World Health Organization report states that approximately nine million people die every year from neurological disorders, andevery 1 in 3 people will have a neurological disorderat some point in their life, resulting in leading cause of death globally.

FDA granted Breakthrough Device Designation for the novel brain implant technology to treat neurological disorders.
