Philips Introduces AI Support to Optimize Heart Valve Repair Procedures

Philips has launched DeviceGuide, an AI-based device tracking solution designed to support teams performing minimally invasive heart valve repair. 

The new software is built into the company’s EchoNavigator platform and brings AI into the procedure room to provide real-time visual guidance during one of the most technically demanding cardiology interventions. The solution will be previewed at London Valves 2025.

Mitral valve regurgitation, a condition affecting more than 35 million adults worldwide, occurs when blood leaks backwards through the heart’s mitral valve. 

Many patients are not fit for open-heart surgery, making transcatheter edge-to-edge repair an important alternative. During this procedure, clinicians must guide a small repair device through a blood vessel and into the beating heart while interpreting both X-ray and ultrasound images.

DeviceGuide aims to simplify this complex workflow. Its AI algorithm automatically tracks the movement and orientation of the treatment device and combines live echo and X-ray views into a single intuitive display. 

A virtual 3D model of the device is projected onto the moving heart image, helping clinicians position and operate the device with improved clarity and control.

Developed with Edwards Lifesciences, the solution brings together expertise in imaging, AI and structural heart treatment. It is intended to enhance procedural efficiency, support safer delivery of care and ultimately improve outcomes for patients undergoing heart valve repair.
