Smith+Nephew Unveils OR3O™ Dual Mobility System for Primary and Revision Hip Arthroplasty

Smith+Nephew has unveiled OR3O Dual Mobility System designed for primary and revision hip arthroplasty.

The introduction of the OR3O Dual Mobility System is particularly significant, as it brings advanced technology not found in other implant systems. It is available for both primary and revision hip arthroplasty applications, and it offers cross-compatibility with the R3™ Acetabular System.

OXINIUM DH (Diffusion Hardened) material for the liner, as well as proprietary OXINIUM on XLPE for the femoral head and polyethylene inserts. This combination eliminates the need for a modular CoCr (Cobalt Chrome) liner and CoCr head ball, which can be prone to wear and corrosion issues.

Unlike traditional implants, dual mobility implants feature a smaller diameter femoral head that locks into a larger polyethylene insert. This design contributes to increased stability and a reduced risk of dislocation. Additionally, it offers an improved range of motion for the patient.

Post-operative dislocation is a significant concern in total hip replacement surgeries. Research demonstrates that the dual mobility design effectively addresses this issue, surpassing metal-on-metal or ceramic-on-ceramic large head configurations. This underscores the potential advantages of the OR3O Dual Mobility System in tackling dislocation-related problems.

The OR3O™ Dual Mobility System is now accessible in India, suitable for both primary and revision applications in hip procedures.
