Synchron Launches Stentrode Brain-Computer Interface Breakthrough Device

Synchron launched Stentrode Brain-Computer Interface, a new breakthrough fully implantable device. Stentrode can translate brain activity or stimulate the nervous system from inside of a blood vessel, without the requirement for open brain surgery.

Stentrode implantation is a minimally-invasive procedure where the device is delivered to the brain through blood vessels. Due to its small size and flexibility, the device can be passed safely through curving blood vessels thus eliminating the need for open brain surgery.

It uses a brain-controlled handsfree app platform named brainOS to translate the brain activity into a standardised digital language. It is designed in a way that patients will be able to train their brains to wirelessly control external systems without the need for using their hands or voice.

Stentrode device functions as both neuroprosthesis and neuromodulation device. It is the only investigational implantable device that helps to avoid open brain surgery.

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grants Breakthrough Device designation for Stentrode, a fully-implantable medical device having ability to translate brain activity without the need for open brain surgery.
