GE\\\'s New Ultrasound Systems
Going ahead with its intention of expanding the benefits of ultrasound to more areas of healthcare, GE Healthcare is introducing four new clinically specialized ultrasound systems to address healthcare providers’ growing demand for sophisticated, real-time imaging at the point of care. GE’s Compact Series is a new line of ultrasound products that places the power and imaging capabilities of a high-performance, 400-pound system into a laptop-size design. The Compact Series builds upon GE’s successful introduction of Vivid i in 2005, a high-performance cardiovascular ultrasound system in a compact design. Vivid i has been rapidly adopted by the medical community, and today is widely used to detect diagnose and manage heart disease at more than 1,000 sites around the world.

Volusion iGE’s i series products are designed to bring specialized, console-quality imaging performance and portability to traditional applications. Voluson i is the world’s first and only 4D compact ultrasound system designed specifically for women’s healthcare, including obstetric, gynecological, and other clinical applications. This new compact system allows clinicians to make real-time diagnoses, particularly for high-risk patients, by providing high-quality 4D imaging to wherever the patient is located. The system enables 4D imaging as the standard of care for prenatal women. Its lightweight allows it to be portable and provide mobile imaging services. LOGIQ i, on the other hand will serve the general imaging needs of Radiology.
LOGIQ e and Vivid e

LOGIQ eGE’s e products focus on expanding ultrasound’s reach to new clinical areas. The LOGIQ e is designed to support real-time clinical decisions in fast paced settings. LOGIQ e is built on GE’s software-based TruScan architecture and patented miniaturization technologies with the image quality and performance of a full-size, 300-pound system. Features like Coded Harmonics, Automated Image Optimization, Easy 3D and LOGIQ view help boost physicians’ diagnostic confidence for a diverse array of patient conditions. Raw data acquisitions and automated applications translate to less time obtaining diagnostic information, a factor particularly important in emergency situations.
The Vivid e blends image quality, clinical applications, reporting tools and a user interface designed specifically for cardiac imaging in a portable 4.6 kg package. The system leverages GE’s research and development investment in the areas of software-based ultrasound platforms and hardware miniaturization in a patented design. Vivid e offers a comprehensive cardiac measurement and analysis package and also full-shared service capabilities.
GE’s Voluson i, LOGIQ e and Vivid e systems are FDA cleared and will become commercially available in the U.S. in June 2006. LOGIQ i is also FDA cleared with plans for commercial introduction in September 2006. With the introduction of its Compact Series, GE expects to double its compact ultrasound business - delivering more than 5,000 compact Vivid®, LOGIQ® and Voluson® ultrasound systems worldwide in 2006.
