DELFI Diagnostics Appoints Charles Newton to Board to Strengthen Commercial Growth Strategy

DELFI Diagnostics, Inc., a developer of AI-powered blood-based cancer detection and monitoring tests using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragmentomics, has appointed Charles "Charlie" Newton to its Board of Directors.

Newton joins the company as DELFI advances its lead product, FirstLook™ Lung, toward FDA submission and prepares for broader commercial adoption.

Bringing nearly 30 years of healthcare finance and executive leadership experience, Newton is expected to provide strategic guidance as DELFI enters a critical stage of growth. His expertise in capital markets, corporate strategy, and mergers and acquisitions will support the company's efforts to expand its innovative cancer diagnostics portfolio.

Most recently, Newton served as Chief Financial Officer of Lyell Immunopharma, where he led the company's initial public offering—one of the largest biotech IPOs in NASDAQ history—and oversaw finance, corporate development, investor relations, and corporate strategy. Prior to that, he spent more than 25 years in healthcare investment banking, holding senior leadership positions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, and Morgan Stanley. During his investment banking career, he advised on approximately US$200 billion in mergers and acquisitions and helped clients raise nearly US$60 billion in capital.

Newton also serves on the boards of several biotechnology companies, including Novavax, Coherus Oncology, and Keros Therapeutics. He previously served on the boards of 2seventy bio before its acquisition by Bristol Myers Squibb and Carmot Therapeutics prior to its acquisition by Roche.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University. His appointment reinforces DELFI Diagnostics' commitment to strengthening its leadership as it advances next-generation AI-powered cancer screening technologies toward commercialization.
