Signum Surgical, a commercial-stage medical technology company focused on advancing treatments for colorectal disorders, has appointed medical device industry veteran Mark J. Foley as Chairman of the Board.
Foley brings more than three decades of experience leading innovative healthcare companies and driving commercial expansion across the U.S. and international markets.
His appointment comes as Signum Surgical continues to expand the commercialization of its BioHealx® technology, which has been available in the U.S. market for the past six months. The minimally invasive device is designed to treat anal fistulas, a painful and often recurring condition estimated to affect one in 5,000 people worldwide. BioHealx® addresses a significant unmet clinical need by providing an alternative to conventional surgical procedures.
The BioHealx® Anal Fistula Device features a bioabsorbable helical implant that applies controlled extraluminal compression to close the fistula tract within the sphincter muscle. According to clinical data, the device has demonstrated an 84.4% success rate while preserving continence and improving patients' quality of life, positioning it as a promising treatment option compared to traditional surgical approaches.
Foley has held executive leadership and board positions at several high-growth medical technology companies, including Zeltiq and Revance Therapeutics, where he played a key role in strategic expansion and commercial success. His extensive expertise in scaling medical device businesses is expected to support Signum Surgical’s next phase of growth.
The appointment reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team as it expands commercial operations, accelerates market adoption of BioHealx®, and advances innovative solutions for patients with colorectal disorders.
