Viz.ai, a leader in AI-powered disease detection and intelligent care coordination, has appointed Tim Showalter, MD, MPH, MBA, as its first Chief Medical Officer.

In this role, Dr. Showalter will lead the company’s clinical strategy and support its mission to expand access to life-saving care through artificial intelligence. He will report directly to CEO and co-founder Chris Mansi, MD.

Dr. Showalter brings more than 15 years of leadership experience spanning oncology diagnostics, AI-driven healthcare technology, and academic medicine. Most recently, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Artera AI, where he helped advance AI-based biomarkers for personalized cancer care, including the first FDA-cleared digital pathology AI test recognized in national guidelines. Earlier, he founded Advaray, Inc., a radiation therapy device company that developed BrachyGel™, later acquired by CQ Medical.

At Viz.ai, Dr. Showalter will oversee AI-assisted care pathway development and strengthen partnerships with life sciences organizations, health systems, and clinical societies. His focus will include expanding evidence generation and supporting real-world implementation of AI solutions across additional disease areas.

A Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Showalter maintains a part-time clinical practice and has authored nearly 200 peer-reviewed publications.
