Robert Cooke Named Chair of GenesisCare Australia Board

GenesisCare Australia, the country's largest provider of oncology services, has appointed healthcare veteran Robert Cooke as the independent chair of its newly formed board. With over 40 years of experience, Cooke has led public and private healthcare companies and managed hospitals in Australia, Asia, and the UK. Notably, he served as Managing Director and CEO of Healthscope from 2010 to 2017, one of Australia's largest private healthcare operators. His experience also includes leadership roles with St Vincent’s Melbourne, Affinity Health, and Spire Healthcare.

Richard Lizzio, CEO of GenesisCare Australia, expressed enthusiasm about Cooke’s appointment, emphasizing his strategic leadership and deep understanding of Australia's healthcare landscape. Lizzio stated that the newly established Australian board, combined with a recapitalized balance sheet, would help GenesisCare achieve sustainable growth and enhance access to high-quality cancer care.

Cooke shared his optimism about the company's future, acknowledging GenesisCare’s market leadership in radiation oncology, with a 35% market share in Australia. He looks forward to working with the board to expand the company’s cancer care services across the country.

GenesisCare’s new nine-member board includes non-executive directors Shane Solomon, Dean Hawkins, Chris Champion, Jarrad Solomons, and Paul Nicholls, along with radiation oncologists Dr. Mario Guerrieri and Professor Lizbeth Kenny AO. These appointments reflect a blend of healthcare, management, and investment expertise, poised to drive the company’s continued growth.

GenesisCare, already serving 30,000 patients annually, plans to expand with three new cancer care centers over the next 12 months and invest over $40 million into technology and infrastructure in the coming years.
