Olympus Appoints Bob White as Chief Executive Officer to Lead Next Phase of MedTech Innovation

Olympus Corporation, a global MedTech leader committed to advancing health and safety, has appointed Bob White as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This strategic leadership transition reflects Olympus’s commitment to accelerating its transformation and driving long-term growth in the evolving medical technology landscape.

White, an accomplished healthcare executive with a track record of innovation and global leadership, will succeed Yasuo Takeuchi, Olympus’s current Director, Representative Executive Officer, President, and CEO. White will also be nominated for election to the Olympus Board of Directors at the company’s General Meeting of Shareholders scheduled for June 2025.

White most recently served as Executive Vice President and President of the Medical Surgical Portfolio at Medtronic, overseeing global operations and innovation initiatives until April 2024. His prior leadership roles at Medtronic include Senior Vice President and President of the Asia Pacific region, where he directed operations across APAC and Japan from his base in Singapore. He also held pivotal roles at Covidien, including President of Emerging Markets and President of Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions, contributing significantly to global expansion and product innovation.

Over the course of his career, White has led diverse teams, managed multi-billion-dollar portfolios, and delivered results through mergers and acquisitions, R&D oversight, and physician-driven market strategies. His earlier career includes leadership roles at GE Healthcare, Merge Healthcare, and IBM’s Healthcare Division, further cementing his credentials in the global MedTech space.

The rigorous CEO selection process, initiated in November 2024, was conducted by Olympus’s Nominating Committee and Advisory Search Committee, in collaboration with a top executive search firm. After a comprehensive evaluation of internal and external candidates, White was selected for his strategic vision, global perspective, and deep understanding of quality, compliance, and innovation in medical technologies.

White holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Cleveland State University and an MBA in finance from Case Western Reserve University.

His appointment signals a new era for Olympus as it strengthens its focus on delivering innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes and redefine the future of healthcare globally.
