Science Corp. Appoints Dr. Murat Günel as Medical Director for Brain-Computer Interface Programs

Science Corporation has appointed Murat Günel as Medical Director for Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), strengthening the company’s leadership as it advances next-generation neural engineering technologies focused on restoring and extending human life.

In his new role, Dr. Günel will help lead Science Corp.’s BCI initiatives, including the development of clinical and surgical programs for the company’s Biohybrid project. The Biohybrid platform is designed to use living neurons as the neural interface instead of traditional silicon-based hardware, enabling higher-bandwidth brain connectivity while potentially reducing the damage and limitations associated with conventional implanted devices.

Dr. Günel currently serves as Sterling Professor of Neurosurgery and Professor of Neuroscience and Genetics at Yale School of Medicine. He is also Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgeon-in-Chief of the Yale New Haven Health System, and Chair of the Yale Medicine Board. He will continue to hold his academic and clinical positions while supporting Science Corp.’s BCI development efforts.

Widely recognized for his contributions to cortical development and the genetics of neurological disorders, Dr. Günel has played a major role in advancing modern neurosurgery research over the past three decades. His appointment follows Science Corp.’s recent $230 million Series C financing round, which is expected to accelerate development of its Biohybrid BCI platform.

In addition to its Biohybrid initiative, Science Corp. is also advancing PRIMA, a retinal implant system designed to restore functional vision in patients with late-stage macular degeneration. The company stated that PRIMA is currently awaiting regulatory approvals from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and European authorities following promising clinical trial results.
