GE HealthCare Appoints Will Song as New President and CEO for China

GE HealthCare, a global leader in healthcare solutions, has appointed Will Song as President and CEO of GE HealthCare. 

Will Song has succeeded Yihao Zhang, who will retire on July 1, 2025. Will Song, has over 20 years of experience at Johnson & Johnson. Song will assume full leadership of the region following Yihao’s retirement.

Yihao’s planned retirement presents an opportunity for GE HealthCare to strategically prepare for a seamless leadership transition. Will Song brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record, making him the ideal leader to drive the company's local strategy forward.

Since joining GE HealthCare in 2019, Yihao has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and strategic development in China. He has been instrumental in reshaping GE HealthCare’s localization, innovation, and partnership strategies, establishing a solid foundation for long-term growth. His leadership has significantly enhanced the company’s presence in the highly dynamic and policy-driven Chinese healthcare market. 

Notably, he doubled GE HealthCare’s innovation investment within five years and expanded its manufacturing footprint across key cities, including Beijing, Wuxi, Tianjin, and Shanghai, while also launching new sites in Chengdu and Shenzhen.

Will Song joins GE HealthCare from Johnson & Johnson, where he most recently served as Global Senior Vice President and Chairman, China. He led the China Presidents' Council and played a key role in advancing Johnson & Johnson’s innovation efforts in China across MedTech and Innovative Medicine. Will’s deep understanding of the China market and extensive experience in leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson will enable him to successfully guide GE HealthCare’s growth in the region. 

Throughout his career, he has also held prominent positions in industry associations, including Vice Chairman of the China Association of Medical Devices Industry and Vice President of the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment.

Will holds a Bachelor’s degree from Peking University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts.

He will be based in Shanghai, China, where he and Yihao will work closely together over the next several months to ensure a smooth and effective leadership transition for the business, which is a key element of GE HealthCare’s growth strategy.
