Introduction of the World's First Connected Ambulance Empowered by Mixed Reality and AI by Mediwave

Monday, December 18, 2023

In a groundbreaking development, Mediwave, the digital healthcare arm of Wavenet headquartered in Singapore, has formed a partnership with 1990 Suwa Seriya, Sri Lanka's national pre-hospital emergency ambulance service. This collaboration aims to enhance emergency care through the integration of Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Together, they have introduced a fully Connected Ambulance, utilizing Mediwave's comprehensive Emergency Response Suite in Sri Lanka. The suite streamlines the emergency healthcare process by digitizing critical procedures, ensuring swift response times, and providing specialized remote care with the assistance of Microsoft HoloLens.

Equipped with cutting-edge communication tools, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) can remotely connect with physicians at the Emergency Command and Control Centre (ECCC). This allows for the monitoring of vital signs and the delivery of specialized care before reaching the hospital, thereby improving care during the crucial golden hour of medical emergencies. EMTs undergo training using AR simulations, equipping them with the knowledge to handle specific emergencies effectively.

Furthermore, the system incorporates a speech-to-text, AI-powered transcriber developed by Mediwave to digitize Electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR). This eliminates delays in Emergency Treatment Units and minimizes the risk of human error. At the heart of these pioneering efforts is the first-of-its-kind Emergency Response Suite, enhancing the efficiency of emergency services. This initiative represents a significant shift in pre-hospital emergency management, setting a precedent for effective emergency response systems globally. It underscores the transformative potential of AI and Mixed Reality on an international scale.
