Sira Medical's Cutting-Edge AR Preoperative Planning Software Receives FDA Clearance

Thursday, February 22, 2024

Sira Medical has recently obtained 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its augmented reality preoperative surgical planning application. This innovative software equips clinicians with advanced imaging tools to support critical patient management decisions.

Traditional imaging methods such as CT scans and MRIs often obscure parts of the anatomy, leaving surgeons to navigate critical decisions during surgery without clear visibility, potentially leading to errors and inefficiencies. Sira Medical's holographic technology addresses this challenge, empowering surgeons with clearer guidance and enhancing their confidence in surgical procedures.

Backed by several peer-reviewed studies showcasing improved surgical efficiency and a preference for augmented reality models in surgical planning, Sira Medical's technology originated from UCSF. Initial funding was provided through the UCSF Innovation Ventures Catalyst program, and the technology is exclusively licensed through the UCSF Office of Technology Management and Advancement. Additional funding rounds have been successfully completed with support from 500 Global and Eileses Capital, highlighting the promising future of Sira Medical's innovative solutions.
