The University of Queensland and Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology Developed Automated Microscope Scanning and Analysis System

Friday, July 21, 2023

The University of Queensland and Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (SNP) had collaborated to develop an automated microscope scanning and analysis system in Brisbane.

This system utilises digital pathology technology to enhance the speed and accuracy of diagnoses in SNP laboratories.

The automated system developed through this collaboration underwent extensive testing, implementation, and accreditation, ensuring it meets the necessary standards for accurate and reliable results. The accreditation by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) further validates the technology's capabilities and quality.

The ability of the system to process thousands of tests a day is a significant advancement, significantly reducing the time it takes to deliver pathology results to patients. Faster and more accurate diagnoses can lead to quicker treatment decisions, potentially improving patient outcomes.

Furthermore, the system allows for obtaining second opinions via telepathology, which facilitates collaboration between experts and improves the overall quality of diagnoses. Additionally, the digital format enhances record-keeping and access to historical records, as there is no longer a need to store physical glass slides for extended periods.
