ZAP Surgical Installs Next-Generation ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery in Ankara, Turkey

Wednesday, September 27, 2023

ZAP Surgical announced the installation of the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery platform at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara, Turkey.

The ZAP-X system utilises gyroscopic mobility to precisely direct radiosurgical beams from numerous angles, enabling the focused delivery of radiation to target tumours. This approach aligns with the clinical goal of safeguarding healthy brain tissue and preserving patients' cognitive function.

The ZAP-X system's vault-free and cobalt-free design is highly regarded for its cost-saving advantages. It eliminates the need for constructing expensive shielded radiation treatment rooms and eliminates the ongoing expenses associated with maintaining, securing, and regularly replacing live radioactive isotopes required for radiation beam production.

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) provides a non-invasive and painless option for treating various primary and metastatic brain tumours, along with other cranial disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia and arteriovenous malformations (AVM). For specific medical indications, radiosurgery has demonstrated equivalent or superior outcomes compared to more costly and potentially debilitating surgical procedures.
