Discovery Behavioral Health Acquires Ambrosia Treatment Center

Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Discovery Behavioral Health, a nationwide leader in mental health services, has acquired Ambrosia Treatment Center of Medford, N.J., a facility providing evidence-based adult treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Newly renamed as Pinelands Recovery Center, the spacious facility is located on 44 secluded acres in southern New Jersey and offers complete residential (partial hospitalization) services.

The facility holds the highest accreditation from the Joint Commission, the same level of accreditation and certification as hospitals (considered the gold standard). However, patient treatment at Pinelands Recovery Center occurs in a comfortable, estate-style environment instead of an institutional setting.

"The center's large campus of forested land, nestled in the gateway to the Pinelands State and National Forest in southern New Jersey – just 20 miles from Philadelphia – affords the perfect combination of privacy and a comfortable setting to facilitate treatment," says Joseph Curran, executive director. Among the upscale center's amenities are tennis courts and a gourmet chef.

The center's acquisition by Discovery Behavioral Health comes at a time when the national opioid crisis has engulfed Philadelphia and south New Jersey. While nationwide the epidemic recorded a downtick in fatal overdoses between 2016 and 2017, New Jersey registered a dramatic 36% increase, according to the latest figures available from the Centers for Disease Control. Similarly, neighborhoods across Philadelphia saw alarming spikes in fatal overdoses, according to a new analysis from the city's medical examiner's office.

"Our area of the country continues to suffer the brunt of the nation's opioid epidemic. Too often, fatal overdose deaths are the result of a lack of available treatment. Pinelands Recovery Center with its long history of providing medically scientific, evidence-based treatment of drug and alcohol addiction is committed to helping turn the tide in the region's worst health crisis," says Christian Losch, program director.

Discovery Behavioral Health CEO John Peloquin said, "Ambrosia has a reputation of delivering exceptional patient care, and we are excited to provide a broader array of behavioral health services to an underserved population. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are among the states most seriously affected by the opioid epidemic. Our combined team is comprised of talented and compassionate industry professionals who share the same core values of quality care and 24/7 family support. By combining the latest advancements in addiction medicine with concierge clinical care, we strive to ensure real progress every single day."
