"I'm a physician and I thought there could be a more efficient way to warm and stabilize an infant without the use of a traditional incubator," said an inventor, from Harrisburg, Pa., "so I invented the NEONATAL WARMING VEST. My design could also be used in off-grid locations or where electric power is unreliable or intermittent, such as in disaster relief scenarios. The product will also potentially allow for early discharge from NICU's in premature infants that require thermal support. It is important to stabilize and regulate temperature in infants born at home and in EMS transportation as well."
The patent-pending invention provides thermal support for newborns and neonatal infants in home care, NICU/nursery, patient transport (EMS), and other settings. In doing so, it eliminates the need to always be dependent on traditional incubators. It also could decrease the length of stay in the NICU. The invention features an effective design that is easy to use and transport so it is ideal for hospitals and parents with neonatal infants. Additionally, it is producible in design variations for cooling youths and adults, which can potentially be used in EMS situations with heat injuries (Heat stroke/exhaustion).
