Remote Healthcare in the Middle East receiving regional and international support

Monday, January 11, 2016

According to recent reports the global IT spend for remote healthcare is set to grow at a CAGR of 25.26% over the period 2014-2019. A large percentage of this is set to be allocated in the Middle East, in order to up skill remote healthcare workers, improve medevac operations and raise regional regulations in line with international standards.

Although great strides have been taken across technology innovation, communication advancements and regional awareness to move the industry forward, there are still a number of challenges facing the industry. According to Dr.Nahyan Helal, Specialist in Occupational Health Administration - Medical Services for ADNOC, the sector currently faces a number of issues in relation to the regional lack of research, understanding and support of the special needs for healthcare services in remote areas. Speaking at the upcoming Remote Healthcare Middle East, Dr. Helal stated: “Having a conference focussed specifically on remote healthcare is important in order to improve and strengthen the present healthcare services available through exploring and introducing the specialty of remote healthcare in the region.”

Alfonso Vaccaro an Emergency Medicine Doctor at Saudi Royal Clinic will also be participating in the event and talking about the complex challenges and expectations of dealing with VIP medicine. In a recent interview he expressed: “Now is a critical time for remote healthcare in the region given the rapidly changing political situation and spreading instability in the Middle East.  Companies are prioritising and assessing their approach to ensuring security and protection of their medical staff particularly in remote locations. Furthermore given the unpredictability of the market, it is critical that companies not only have contingency plans for medevac operations, but also develop and improve local practitioners to be able to respond to high risk situations, reactive situations.”

Remote Healthcare Middle East is the region’s only dedicated forum for specialised experts operating in the field to come together and discuss the most pressing issues facing the industry. With regional and international support from the biggest sector players, stakeholders and policy makers, this event will set the stage for future developments, best practice and policy change.

Attending the event with a number of his colleagues Colonel David Bates, Director Army Nursing Services, Assistant Director Business Requirements and Assurance, Army Medical Services, Ministry of Defence, UK stated that “Sharing medical and military expertise is an essential prerequisite for enabling joint training and operations particular in remote environments such as the in the Middle East.
