MUSC Receives DHEC Approval to Build US$325 million Hospital in Berkeley County

Introduction:

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has received approval from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to build US$325 million in Berkeley County.

Features:

MUSC has received approval for its Certificate of Need (CON) to build a new hospital in Berkeley County.

MUSC Health Community Hospital will be a 311,221-square-foot facility with 128 beds.

MUSC will provide top-quality care and increased access to every patient delivering the most advanced health care for every patient.

The 311,221-square-foot facility will provide a range of specialized inpatient and outpatient services.

Construction is expected to start later this year and the project is expected to be operational in 2022.

The MUSC's goal is to prevent oversaturation of the same kind of health care services in a single area and to control health spending.

DHEC also identified the need for MUSC to provide 147 more patient beds to meet the area's healthcare demand.
