SickKids Breaks Ground on New Campus Redevelopment Project

Introduction:

SickKids Foundation and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) broke ground on their first phase of a new campus redevelopment project, known as Project Horizon.

Features:

The construction phase will create the Patient Support Center (PSC) - a new 22-storey educational, training, and administrative tower.

The new PSC will house the SickKids Learning Institute, a Simulation Centre for hands-on teaching and a variety of bright, modern workspaces for hospital staff.

The construction of the PSC is part of the SickKids campus redevelopment effort which will result in the renovation or renewal of virtually all clinical care and support areas of the hospital.

The new PSC will replace the SickKids’ Elizabeth McMaster building - an eight storey laboratory and administrative building.

The second phase of the project includes the Peter Gilgan Family patient Care Tower and renovations to existing areas of the hospital's campus, such as the current hospital atrium and outpatient clinics, will follow.

The Peter Gilgan Family patient care tower will house critical care and inpatient units, a blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapy unit, specialized operating theatres, diagnostic imaging facilities, and an expanded emergency department.

The three phases of the redevelopment project will take place over the next 10 years.
