New Bronchoscopic Device Launched To Treat Chronic Bronchitis

A new bronchoscopic device has been launched by Gala Therapeutics to treat patients with Chronic Bronchitis.

The device RheOxTM delivers non-thermal energy to the airways to reduce mucus-producing cells in patients with Chronic Bronchitis, in a minimally invasive procedure called Bronchial RheoplastyTM .

Chronic Bronchitis, an inflammation of the air passages occurs in people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and in individuals with normal lung function.

Patients with Chronic Bronchitis experience persistent cough, excess mucus production and impaired quality of life.

The current treatments are directed at bronchodilation and reduction in inflammation only and do not address the overproduction of mucus.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted its breakthrough device designation for the system.
