Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, a physician-owned, major orthopaedic specialty hospital located in Northeast Ohio, today announced plans to construct a new specialty orthopaedic facility on Embassy Parkway in Fairlawn, Ohio. The new 60-bed state-of-the-art hospital facility will transform patient care and is expected to open in mid-2020.
“We spent the first half of 2017 developing a business plan that included the project scope, timeline, and projected cost. After much consideration, we selected this location in Fairlawn, close to our existing outpatient locations, because it will be easily accessible for patients throughout Northeast Ohio,” said Ronald Suntken, EdD, FACMPE, president and CEO of Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center. “We are working closely with the City of Fairlawn to finalize plans. The projected build time is approximately 20-24 months, with move-in and occupancy anticipated by mid-2020.”
The new hospital facility will offer surgical and nonsurgical care and transform the patient experience through patient-centered design and state-of-the-art technological innovation. The approximately 160,000 square-foot facility will be designed in partnership with patients, physicians, clinicians and hospital staff, and focus on the patient. In addition to 60 inpatient beds, it will include 12 operating rooms, QuickCare (urgent orthopaedic clinic), imaging, and other support services. This adds an inpatient facility near Crystal Clinic’s existing outpatient services on Embassy Parkway.

Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center currently provides inpatient and outpatient services at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, where it leases space from Summa Health. Those services will continue at St. Thomas Hospital until the new hospital is completed and expected to open in mid-2020.
Pending the city’s approval, construction of the new Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Hospital is slated to begin in spring of 2018. Hammel, Green & Abrahamson in Milwaukee and IKM in Pittsburgh will serve as the project architects. Cleveland-based Turner Construction Company will manage the building process.
